On Police Complicity and Criminality the Meshuggeneh Maven asks:

Dear Autodidact:

A friend who comes from a family of cops and was a military MP himself during the first Iraq war says there was absolutely police complicity with the US Capitol rioters – that the way Capitol police behaved is totally inconsistent with standard police procedure for mob control, and US allies who’ve trained with our police agree.   There’s also the obvious-to-anyone-with-eyeballs difference between the way the police handled the Trump mob riot and the way they handled last summer’s BLM protests.  And I just read that since 2001 over 250 Black police officers have sued the Capitol Hill Police Department for racial discrimination.  It all just looks bad to me.  What do YOU see?

Dear Meshugenneh Maven,

There are so many books and articles now written about the treatment of African Americans by the police and prison system, it’s almost impossible to keep up.  So absolutely, anyone-with-eyeballs can see the difference in how BLM protesters have been treated versus how the Trump mob rioters were treated.  Simultaneously, while not as deadly as suicide bombers, there have been over a hundred cars that have driven directly into crowds of BLM protesters in the last year that included fatalities and lots of serious injuries.  This is a new trend in domestic terror that has not gotten enough attention from law enforcement.  Now regarding the US Capitol insurrection on the day of January 5th, according to the Associated Press, and as seen in a new article at Al Jazeera entitled “US Capitol rioters included trained ex-military,” it appears that law enforcement participation in the insurrection is more than just hearsay and speculation.  An then there’s this list compiled by a PhD. at Columbia University that includes the names, home states and status of investigation- reassignment, suspension, etc. – cites 29 law enforcement individuals.
